Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT)
What is CFT?
Gillespie Approach- CFT was developed by Dr. Barry Gillespie as a periodontist over 50 years ago. It continues to evolve as a gentle and effective modality for a variety of conditions for all ages. With powerful therapeutic effects, it helps release fascial strain to free the body, brain and nervous system to thrive.
It is a do no harm modality with big benefits.
What to Expect?
Infants
Sessions will vary depending on the infant’s age. The goal is to keep your baby calm, receptive, and out of fight or flight. We will follow the baby’s lead and listen to them and their body.
Please remember this work is not forced, and that’s why it works.
It is okay for baby to be asleep or be awake the entire time. If baby gets fussy, we will change positions, stand up, walk around, or have you comfort hold/nurse/feed, and we can continue the work once they are settled.
This is an interactive session between parent, baby/toddler, and the provider.
Children
Children are on the go so that means we are too. We ask parents to be interactive and play with their child during the sessions. We will try lay on a table to get the most out of the work however sometimes it may be more effective on the floor where your child is comfortable. The provider will follow the lead of the child.
Adults
If you are doing this for yourself, as a woman, you can expect this session to go how you desire. The provider follows the lead of your body. You may or may not experience an emotional release as your fascia can hold emotional trauma. Everyone’s body responds differently.
What is Fascia?
You know how when you peel an orange, there’s that white stuff, pith, holding all the pieces together?
That’s similar to the fascia in our bodies! It wraps around everything—our muscles, bones, and even our organs—keeping us all in one piece. If you pull on one part of the pith on an orange, it tugs on the other side too, like fascia does in our bodies. It’s all connected!
Sometimes, though, that fascia gets too tight, like when your shoelaces are tied way too hard, and it makes everything feel stuck. If fascia is tight in one spot, it can pull on other places too, even far away from where it originated! That’s why sometimes your knee might hurt, but the real problem is somewhere else, like your hip or even your foot. Fascia is sneaky like that—it doesn’t just stay in one place!
That’s where CFT comes in! It’s a gentle way to help your fascia let go and move how it’s supposed to. Instead of pulling and stretching really hard, CFT listens to the body and helps it unwind, like when you carefully peel the pith off an orange without breaking it. When your fascia can move freely, everything feels better—your body can stretch, wiggle, and even take big deep breaths without feeling stuck!
